Public comment is open to any resident of the district. You don't need to be an expert, represent a group, or have prepared remarks. You do need to sign up before the meeting starts and stay within the time limit. A few things that help: be specific about which school or decision you're talking about, say what you want the board to do rather than only what's wrong, and write your comment down ahead of time, since three minutes goes faster than anyone expects.

The board meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 4:30 PM at the Central Office (2601 N. Memorial Pkwy, Huntsville, AL 35810). I post a recap after each one in Updates, so you can follow what happened even if you weren't there.

Starting in November, I'm holding community meetings once a month, alternating between an online session and an in-person one at the South Huntsville Library. No appointment needed. Bring a question, raise a concern, or just come and listen. I'm doing this because email is useful, but it only reaches people who are already comfortable writing one. Community meetings are a way to hear from everyone else too. Dates go out in the email updates, on social media, and here in Updates.
